Professor Carlos Blanco
Director of Research
Professor Carlos Blanco has been appointed Director of Research at The Children's Research Centre, Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin.
Of Dutch and Argentinean nationality, Professor Blanco has spent most of his career in the Netherlands (Director of Neonatology, Division leader of perinatal medicine, Chairman Department of Paediatrics) at University Hospital, University Maastricht. He has been a visiting researcher at Oxford Department of Physiology, University of Cambridge. Professor Blanco will retain some clinical sessions in The National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street where he is a Consultant Neonatologist. Professor Blanco is widely published. His research interests lie in the area of Foetal and Neonatal Physiology and early origins of adult disease in respect of the cardiovascular system. Professor Blanco took up his position on May 25th 2009.

Dr Jacinta Kelly
PhD, Deputy Director of Research.
Dr Kelly has joined the The Children's Research Centre as Deputy Director of Research effective 1st August 2009.
Dr Kelly was lecturer in Immunology at the Dublin Institute of Technology, where she was Director of a joint TCD-DIT Masters in Molecular Pathology. She also has extensive experience in scientific publishing at commissioning editor level, and in devising and running post graduate training programmes. Dr Kelly is a member of the National Children’s SAC. Her research interest lies in the area of human autoimmunity and inflammatory disease, with coeliac disease and other diseases of the gastrointestinal tract providing a model.
