About Us

The Children’s Research Centre has been at the heart of paediatric research in Ireland and internationally for over four decades. Founded in 1965, it was the first dedicated research centre on the site of an Irish hospital. The centre underwent major renovation and organizational changes in 2009, and now offers a state of the art facility for biomedical research. Additionally, we are developing a Paediatric Clinical Research Unit. With a new Directorate, also appointed in 2009, the remit of the centre was broadened to include all paediatric research groups in Ireland, and the name has been changed to the National Children’s Research Centre to reflect this.

Our goal is to facilitate research into the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of childhood diseases, through the award of research grants funded by the Children’s Medical Research Foundation. Located on the grounds of Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, the NCRC supports research into paediatric diseases at a number of locations in Ireland. Our grant award schemes are open to all scientists and clinicians interested in researching the causes, treatment and prevention of childhood diseases.
